The image to the left is of an XLed floodlight from Steinel.  This European manufactured range of floodlights provide very high performance combined with long life and low running costs.  They can also incorporate sensors to detect movement and light levels.

They are very useful where replacing lamps may be difficult or interrupt important processes.  Tight beam control means little wasted light and very low light pollution.  As the beam has a defined edge they can be used where light-spill into nearby domestic dwellings needs to be minimised.

Steinel's LED S1 is a very clever light.  18 watts of LED controlled by a sensor that detects movement and a photocell that can see if there is enough light without the need to switch on.  The fitting can be set up so that it is off normally (no movement detected) or dimmed.  In the dimmed condition it only consumes 1.8 watts but gives sufficient light for reassurance.

Combining LED with sensor technology can generate very large savings in electrical consumption.  But LED S1s are even more clever than that, these fittings can talk to each other via a special radio system so that groups of lights can be made to all react together, ideal for staircases, complex shape corridors and reception areas.  300mm diameter x 67mm deep and for interior use.
